I am starting the branding process (insert you prayers here). For those of you who don't know what branding is here is a quick rundown. Branding, simply put, is a label. A collection of images and ideas representing me, my photography and business. A brand is intangible. It refers to the reputation behind your business's name and logo. A carefully built brand is worth more in actually dollars than ALL the tangible assets put together, says Entrepunure.com. Branding is the first thing I have to do to decide how I want people to perceive my business. In short, my logo and what you as the public sees.
As you can see it is very, very, VERY important. Did I stress how important this is in business? It is important to pick something/collage of things and stick with it! I want to make sure that my branding fits my shooting and editing style.
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN.... ALL OF YOU! I know what I am going for, but what is important is how clients, the public and YOU see me! How would you "label" my style? I want to make sure my branding is "me", but also stands out. You don't have to give me some long drawn out answer if you don't want to. Just a few words even! So, all of you lurkers that stop by and never speak... YOU are the ones that I want to hear from. My Church friends, in-laws, college friends, family, fellow photogs, etc... Along with my faithful commenters of course! What goes around comes around. That means karma baby... so just help me out here and comment about what you see in my photography and style! As they say in the interior design world, when you mix traditional elements with modern element you come out with what is called transitional. So I guess I'm trying to say that your traditional as far as technique but modern with the use of locations and editing. I don't know if that makes sense or not. I also would say that you're photos are young, fresh, and with the times, but still classic. I hope this helps. Nick is working late tonight so I don't know if he'll be able to post anything. I'm hoping that he can be of more help than I am.
Ok, can I just dido what Stacy said. She hit it right on the head. I know so little about art so it is difficult for me to put a name to a style.
My first thought was emotion. I see a lot of emotion coming out in all your shots. The people in your pictures say a lot to me as I look at them.
That is what captures me and what I like to see in pictures. It's not just a photo, it is a story about that time in their life.
The colors you use play a big part in conveying that "story" to me.
A great example of the quality of your work would be Nick and Stacey's shoot. It had an enduring, passionate feel to it. Yes, they are a great looking couple, but the expressions you captured were charming and timeless and it looked effortless to get the emotions to the surface. I love that photo shoot!!!
OK. The way I see it you are a bit 'Town and Country'. By that I mean you're style isn't super gritty and urban, nor is super fluffy and country, but maybe a mix of the two (kinda like Kansas City). The photos convey an intimate feel while portraying a variety of locations and textures. Maybe eclectic is a good word for it. The high contrast desaturated colors give a classic feel, while the grittier location choices give a more modern feel. Its a great mix.

A brand should definitely speak not just to the images you produce but to the entire experience of Erin Jensen Photographer. The others have already commented on your images, so here's what comes to mind about you the person based on browsing through your blog and the emails we've exchanged:
easy going, approachable, comfortable, down to earth, warm, welcoming, inviting.
I definitely feel that people would feel very comfortable with you very quickly, and that you're the kind of person that they would want to continue a relationship with and even hang out with on occasion.

stacy had some really great comments...i've noticed that you like the urban backdrops, but manage to make them look soft, romantic, not gritty as stacy said. i think you really do walk that fine line between traditional and modern...also the techniques that you use makes any shot feel classic. jenny was right too, your shots are highly emotive. i'll keep thinking...maybe something will hit me! for now, keep letting your work convey your style...it speaks volumes!
