Due to his inspiring leadership during the civil rights movement and because he was assassinated while serving in that capacity, Dr. Luther King, Jr., is and forever will be and iconic figure. Not just in American Culture and American History, but in world history.
As a child, and even today, I am mezmorized by him. His spoken word, his written word and his integrity of what a man is, and should be. He didn't fight so ferociously for only his rights, and the rights of our people, but he fought for the rights of Americans. He strived to help our nation realize that we were all the same and all entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The title of my blog is not coincidently titled The Pursuit of Happiness. I remember everyday how blessed I am to live this life, with these freedoms.
Like and unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true.
Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength to Love, 1963
